Espíritu del Flamenco en Chatswood

The Dance of Passion and Soul Returns to the Zenith Theatre

Flamencology Dance Studio returns to the Zenith Theatre to present their latest production “Espíritu Del Flamenco”. Following their previous triumphs of mainly theatrical-dance shows of “Torero”, “Salome” and “Carmen”, “Espíritu Del Flamenco” is a welcome return to the traditional tablao style of show as you would see in Spain with a showcase of a variety of styles of music, dance and song.

Steeped in mystery, flamenco is a profound and evolving art-form with light and shade. This is never more evident than the three feature dances of the evening -  the Bolero, Guajira and Farruca.

Bolero is a traditional piece adapted to flamenco and is danced with a colourful long- train dress known as “Bata De Cola". which is kicked whilst dancing to create graceful and elegant movements. The costume requires a high level of skill to master but when done proficiently it is visually spectacular. One of the highlights of the dance is the inclusion of the most familiar Spanish sounds, the castañuelas (castanets).

The Guajira is bright, joyous and one of the most feminine of dance with Cuban influence and incorporates the abanico (fan).

In contrast, the Farruca originates from Galicia in northern Spain. It is a virile, macho dance traditionally danced by men and will be danced by Flamencology's leading male dancer Raffi.

With the 20-strong troupe of dancers being accompanied by the soulful voice of Spaniard Rafael Alcolea and emotive guitar melodies of Peter Hardwicke, the evening is bound to stir the passions and transport the audience to a far-away gypsy barrio in Seville.

Performance of "Espíritu Del Flamenco" is for 2 nights only, those being Saturday the 13th and Sunday the 14th of December at 7:30pm. The venue is the Zenith Theatre, corner of McIntosh and Railway Streets, Chatswood.

Every Hispanic in Australia, no matter his/her country of origin or political ideas, should be proud of this Uruguayan-Australian, who after years of hard work has reached the highest position in an Australian state parliament. The first Hispanic to do so. We believe his humility and energy will help him do the best for the people of Victoria.

El uruguayo Telmo Languiller se convirtió esta semana en primer hispano en presidir la Asamblea Legislativa de un estado australiano.
